A magnetic proximity switch is a non-contact sensor that detects the presence or absence of a magnetic object, like a permanent magnet, to open or close an electrical circuit. These switches are ideal for harsh environments and can "see" through non-magnetic materials like wood, plastic, and stainless steel to operate from a distance. An inductive proximity switch is a non-contact sensor that detects metallic objects by sensing changes in an electromagnetic field. It uses a coil and an oscillator to create a magnetic field; when a metal object enters this field, it induces eddy currents, which load the oscillator, causing its oscillations to cease or attenuate. This change triggers a detection circuit to send an output signal, making it ideal for applications like object recognition and presence monitoring in industrial environments.
